About

Emma Studd

Emma Studd is a printmaker whose work explores the interplay of geometry, colour, and pattern through the process of screen printing. By layering transparent inks and manipulating tonal values, she transforms simple shapes into intricate, dynamic compositions.

Her process balances structure with spontaneity. While printing, Emma responds intuitively as the work evolves, allowing each layer to guide the next. This results in unique, one-off prints that reflect a dialogue between precision and play.Influenced by Op Art and contemporary Abstract Art, Emma's work highlights the beauty and complexity that can emerge from a single geometric form.

She is particularly drawn to the hexagon, with its ability to tessellate and shift, creating illusions of depth and movement. Recently, she has been working on a larger scale and exploring different substrates such as wood.

Emma has a BA (Hons) in Textile Design, PGCE in Art and Design and more recently completed her MA in Multi-Disciplinary Printmaking. She currently prints & teaches at Spike Print Studio in Bristol.Emma has exhibited her work in a number of independent and group exhibitions around the UK, including WCPF, for several years. Her printed wooden panels have been selected for the RoyalAcademy Summer Exhibition and the RWA Annual Open.
