About

James Grossman

James Grossman (b. 2001) is a London based sculptor whose practice explores the intersection of emerging technologies and nature’s hidden systems. With a background in Product Design and a deep fascination with organic gorm, his work examines the entangled origins of life and the interdependence of ecosystems, from microscopic cellular structures to expansive natural networks.

Grossman is particularly drawn to working with raw and reclaimed materials, from reclaimed wood to recycling clay in pursuit of a more sustainable, circular practice. His approach emphasises not only observing nature, but actively collaborating with it. He is interested in materials that are both sustainable and fluid, substances that can mimic the organic flow and smooth formations gound in natural systems, yet have the ability to harden into enduring, rigid structures. The behaviour of these materials often becomes a source of inspiration in itself, guiding the direction of his work and shaping the forms it takes, allowing process and material to evolve together intuitively.
