R2 Factory is a dynamic, innovative workspace created by Rolls-Royce to foster creativity in AI development. Located in a stunning Georgian townhouse just behind the BBC, the building exudes elegance with its sweeping staircase, grand ballroom, and classical columns. However, the building's grandeur didn’t quite align with the unconventional, tech-savvy team it housed.

Retro-futuristic art for the bold and creative

The brief was to curate a space that felt retro and futuristic, embracing a quirky, science-fiction aesthetic. We chose artworks that evoked the playful nature of 1980s TV graphics, arcade games, and retro-futuristic designs. Featured artists include Laura Benetton, Arantxa Echarte, Alex Giles, and Fraser Renton, whose work was displayed across the six floors of the building, creating a visual narrative that inspired creativity and connection. The ground floor and basement were designed to be calming spaces, with artwork by James Rogers and Mark Beattie’s sculptures in the garden. The dining area and wellness studios featured dynamic pieces by Fraser Renton. Upstairs, the first floor housed a reception lounge with prints by Alex Giles, while the ballroom hosted stunning works by Liz Miller and Melissa Hartley, alongside sculptures by Dragica Carlin.

Shaping innovation with ever-evolving art

The collaboration space on the third floor showcased bold, statement-making pieces by Laura Benetton, reflecting the brand's distinctive identity. Throughout the building, the spaces were continuously filled with art that celebrated the creativity and energy of R2 Factory, including a digital artwork projection on the sweeping staircase that captured the essence of student videos, bringing a modern, experimental vibe to the venue. With artworks rotated every six months, R2 Factory's dynamic and ever-evolving environment truly reflects the diverse and imaginative minds at work inside.
