About

Andrea Mongenie

Andrea Mongenie’s practice spans painting, set design, and murals. It centers on the interaction between shape and color, balance and discord, light, texture, and movement. The power of her final compositions relies on a sense of ritual: a lengthy process of color mixing, resulting in the inexplicable harmony of color, objects, and place. With every painting, Andrea aims to achieve a deep inner serenity, calm, and warmth.

Born in Paris, Andrea studied fine art and then fashion and printed textiles at the University of the Arts in London. She worked as a set designer and art director in London for 10 years before returning to painting in 2016. She made the shift to working as a full-time artist in 2019. After 15 years in London, she recently moved back to Paris, where she currently works from her studio at the Fondations Des Artistes in Nogent Sur Marne.

To me, painting is a bit like yoga: the more you show up and do it every day, the better you get, and the more enjoyable it becomes.
